When Chicago Fire first aired in 2012, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) was a direct fan-favorite. Throughout his decade as the wunderkind of Firehouse 51, Kelly has for sure been put through the wringer. Taylor Kinney is returning for Season 12!

Why did Severide leave 'Chicago Fire'?
Since 2019, the rumor mill has been operating extra time on theories that Severide could be leaving the display. Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas in the past mentioned the future of two characters, Severide and Casey, on Twitter, pointing out, "They won't both be 51 before the winter break."

In January 2023 Taylor Kinney took a go away of absence from the display.
A file from Deadline introduced Taylor would take a leave of absence from the show effective January 2023 to care for a personal subject.
