"It was a beautiful conversation," Mackenzie said in April 2021, per InTouch. “She didn’t have to respond to the phone. It isn't her accountability to coach me. It’s our accountability to grasp our privilege. It’s my fault, and I'm taking complete responsibility.”

However, Cheyenne's response was not as forgiving as Mackenzie had was hoping, and tensions escalated right through that season's reunion episode, filmed in October 2021.

Prior to the reunion, Mackenzie said she texted the entire girls and apologized again, which precipitated Cheyenne to unfollow her on Twitter. Then, when Mackenzie got to the set, she was once instructed she could be filming her segments alone. However, she later saw social media posts of all of the other women together and knew she used to be separated deliberately.

Post-reunion, Cheyenne rehashed the placement on her Instagram Stories by the use of The Sun, noting that Mackenzie's then-husband, Josh McKee, whom she has since cut up from, had also made an pointless offensive remark about Cheyenne following the Kamala Harris observation.

"We had a conversation that she continued to put her foot in her mouth, explaining how she knew nothing about segregation & how black people were referred to as colored where she came from."

Cheyenne endured: "I took my time to teach a lesson when I did not have to. It is not my responsibility to teach you."

"But since I am the only black cast member on the show, she felt like she had to call me and explain. After an hour-long conversation, she thanked me for even talking to her because she said her husband thought I was going to be 'one of the angry black women,'" she wrote.

Following the reunion episode in 2021, MTV quietly let Mackenzie go. This made her look on Teen Mom: Family Reunion Season 3, which premiered in March 2024, even more sudden.
