The American drama collection Queen Sugar used to be created via director Ava Duvernay and Oprah Winfrey. The show is according to Natalie Baszile's 2014 novel of the similar title and follows 3 siblings living in rural Louisiana who are dealing with the aftermath of their father's surprising demise.
The siblings, Nova, Charley, and Ralph, will have to come to a decision the fate of the family's 800-acre sugarcane farm while coping with other issues corresponding to racial profiling and inequities in the criminal justice system. Queen Sugar won the NAACP award of Outstanding Writing in a Dramatic Series in 2017.
