There's all the time a way of darkness and tragedy on each episode of NBC's Dateline, and the double homicide of Amber Washburn and Josh Niles is no other. Their slayings shall be featured on 'The Plan,' the Oct. Eleven episode of the investigative collection, and the gruesome main points of their deaths are almost too in poor health to fathom.

They had been a loving couple with a tender son and it looked like Niles and Washburn had all of it figured out. But, Niles' previous came back to hang-out him, and he and Washburn paid the ultimate value as a result.

Who killed Amber Washburn and Josh Niles?

Washburn, 24, and Niles, 28, have been living in Sodus, N.Y., a small town upstate at the time of their murders. The two were courting for years, and Washburn gave beginning to son Joshua Jr., who has autism, in 2014. In October of 2018, the couple was shot useless in their driveway. Niles had been standing in his driveway when his killer hunted him down, and Washburn happened to return house from an errand with Joshua Jr. at the absolute mistaken time. 

Washburn had noticed the violence happening in her driveway as soon as she pulled in, and she tried to flee. Her automotive used to be in reverse when she used to be fatally shot in the head, and the automobile with her son in tow began to move backwards down the driveway. Thankfully, the auto came to a prevent when it tapped a neighbor's driveway around the street, and Joshua Jr. wasn't hurt.

Murders like Niles and Washburn's simply did not occur in Sodus. It was once transparent that the two were focused, considering that they had been shot at point clean range on their property. There was no next robbery, so police briefly came to the belief that they wanted to have a look at folks who had issues with Niles (since he was obviously the target).

Police soon realized that Niles had received full custody of his two kids from a previous dating with Charlene Childers in August 2018. Childers have been living in Texas on the time along with her husband, Timothy Dean, and she was once devastated at the prospect of shedding custody of her youngsters to a spot to this point clear of where she lived.

Dean then drove as much as New York and pulled the cause to kill Washburn and Niles, while Childers stayed in Texas to have an hermetic alibi. Interestingly, Dean was once a police chief in Sunray, Tex.

Dean had been charged with legal child abuse in May of 2018, so he and Childers had misplaced custody of their respective children in the months following. Perhaps a way of guilt because of this led to him to feel obligated to homicide Childers' ex. 

Bron Bohlar, every other police officer in Texas, used to be additionally arrested for helping Dean to hire the car that he drove to Sodus to devote the murders. He was once charged with second-degree conspiracy.

How did the case get resolved in court docket?

Childers did admit in court that she wanted Niles dead because she wanted to get custody of her kids again. She said that she was the motive force in the back of the murders. 

Dean was once convicted of six felonies (including first-degree murder) after his May of 2019 trial. He was sentenced to life in jail with out the potential for parole. Childers was sentenced in June to 28 years in state jail for first-degree manslaughter for her function within the murders.
