Why Shane Gillis Told ‘SNL’ Viewers Not to Google His Firing From the Show

Years after Shane Gillis was fired from Saturday Night Live, he hosted the episode on Feb. 24, 2024, in what could also be each his first and final look at the NBC show.
In his monologue, Shane seemed insecure concerning the live target audience’s reaction, announcing such things as “I assumed it was humorous,” “I thought that was gonna be a large hit right here,” and “I believed that was gonna get a larger snigger.”
He added, “I’m attempting my absolute best. Also, this position is extremely well-lit. I will be able to see everybody now not taking part in it.”
Shane did recognize his firing right through that uneasy monologue. “But, , don’t look that up, please,” he hastened so as to add. “Please don’t Google that.”
And then he proceeded to make homosexual jokes and jokes about his family members with Down syndrome, even dropping the R-word at one level. “Look, I don’t have any subject matter that may be on TV, alright?” he stated.

Saturday Night Live announced in September 2019 that Shane was joining the cast as a featured player alongside Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang, who are nonetheless on the show as full-fledged repertory players.

My purpose is never to hurt anyone, but I'm looking to be the most productive comedian I will be, and on occasion that calls for dangers.”

Days later came the inside track that Shane have been fired from SNL. A spokesperson for the display stated Shane was employed “on the energy of his ability as comic and his impressive audition” but that the show was “now not conscious” of his racist and homophobic jokes, in keeping with THR.
“The language he used is offensive, hurtful, and unacceptable,” the spokesperson seen. “We are sorry that we didn't see those clips previous, and that our vetting procedure was not up to our usual.”
Shane spoke back to his ouster on Twitter, pronouncing that he sought after to turn out himself on SNL however understood that his involvement would be a distraction. “I appreciate the decision they made,” he added. “I’m honestly grateful for the chance.”
